Covid Vaccine Confirmation Certificate for Travel

If you need proof of Covid vaccination for travel/football/nightclubs please download the NHS Scotland Covid Status app on your mobile phone. If you feel you are medically exempt from vaccination and need a vaccination exemption certificate please phone 0808 196 8565. Please be aware very few people in Scotland will have a certifiable medical exemption.

Covid Letters of Recovery and Fit to Fly Letters

Public Health Scotland has now advised that Health Boards and GP Practices should "no longer be issuing these to patients". The service, if necessary can be obtained from non-NHS Providers with more information available from the Fit For Travel website.

Facemask Exemption Information for Travel

As per Scottish Government guidelines exemption certifications are not required, however, should you need this for travel purposes for any Airline you can request a free face covering exemption card by phoning 0800 121 6240 or through the NHS Scotland exemption card website. Face Covering Exemption Card Scotland.

Please do not contact your GP Practice to ask for vaccination certificates or face covering exemption letters as these are not documents that your GP can provide.

If you are finding yourself really stuck with vaccines or certificates then a GP might be able to provide some advice  and help even if we cannot provide the actual vaccine or certificate.  We do understand that not everyone has typical needs and know that some patients with complex situations have found navigating some of the national systems very difficult.

Travel Information

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.  This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.  There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below

EuropeEurope & RussiaNorth AmericaNorth America
Central AmericaCentral AmericaindiaSouth America
egyptCarribeanlithuaniaAfrica
bulgariaMiddle EastpolandCentral Asia
chinaEast AsiachinaAustralasia and Pacific

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible  - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations.  These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.  Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge.  This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
